Yoga Bali Story

Beate McLatchie

Lead Teacher & Founder of Yoga Bali

Beate is a qualified yoga teacher with extensive training through the Yoga Alliance (E-500 RYT) and has taught over 10,000 hours. Her certifications include a 200-hour training at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Kerala, India, additional 200- and 100-hour Vinyasa trainings in Bali and 300-hour studies in Therapeutic Restorative Yoga and Kashmir Shaivism plus various teacher trainings and ongoing practices with esteemed teachers such as Olop Arpipi, Lois Steinberg, Patrica Walden, Shiva Rea, Manos Manouso, Dharma Mittra, Tara Judelle, Amit Raina and Sharon Gannon/David Life.

Beate’s journey with movement began on the tennis court, where discipline, passion and resilience shaped her deep connection to body and mind. Born and raised in the alpine environment of Innsbruck, Austria, this reverence for the natural world became the foundation of her teaching, leading students to a deeper harmony between themselves and their surroundings.

She began an adventurous life that started with a 4-year athletic scholarship to play tennis in Florida and New York. After graduating, she worked as Guest Relations & VIP Manager at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. A career change led her into politics where she worked for the President of Austria before moving to Bali. A deep love for this island, Indonesia and its people ignited her true calling in her family, holistic health & wellness and yoga.

After founding Indonesia’s first health store, Beate established “Bali Yoga & Wellness” in 2005, the first official yoga company on the island, offering yoga in villas, hotels and private homes. In 2014, she expanded her vision to Vienna and founded Bali Yoga Vienna, a yoga studio of movement and mindfulness, which is now run by Alkemy in the heart of the city on Schwarzenbergplatz.

As the world became quieter during the pandemic, Beate returned to the place that had always felt like home – Bali. From this space of reflection and renewal, Yoga Bali was born – an international yoga platform with trainings, public & online classes, private sessions and yoga vacations & retreats to support students worldwide to realign their body and mind, increase their flexibility, strength and energy and reconnect with their true calling, their True Self.

Beate’s teaching focuses on physical alignment and the precision of physical architecture. She combines the detailed Iyengar-based Hatha Yoga, the healing essence of Therapeutic Restorative Yoga, the dynamic Flow of Vinyasa, the Floatation of Sahaja Yoga & Free Movement and the Bali Yoga Bootcamp Style, in harmony with breath, focus and ultimately meditation. Deep breathing during asana practice & in life, as well as specific special breathing techniques (pranayama) are essential to her teaching. Beate’s heart beats passionately for the teachings of ancient yoga philosophy – Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, Vijnana Bhairava of Kashmir Shaivism, Buddhist scriptures to name a few – fusing it with the insights of modern visionaries such as Byron Katie, Viktor Frankl, Gabor Maté and Thich Nhat Hanh.

Through her international yoga platform, Beate hopes to have inspired countless people to a deeper consciousness and to self-care & self-responsibility in body, mind and soul.

Our Mission Statement

At Yoga Bali, we believe that Yoga is a Gift from the Gods for Humanity. We humbly and gratefully receive and pass on the treasure. We are honored to share our passion, experience and dedication to the practice of yoga through our Yoga Teacher Trainings, Yoga Holidays & Retreats and private practices both online and in person.

Our mission is to support those who seek to uplift their health, energy and awareness by blending ancient yogic wisdom with modern self-care practices, guiding each individual through a personalized approach toward daily practices (Sadhana), self-study (Svadhyaya) and ultimately self-realization (Samadhi).

The journey of holistic healing & self-discovery often feels like a search outside ourselves, in exterior remedies, relationships, achievements and material pursuits. But while these experiences often offer band aids and fleeting satisfaction, they ultimately leave us yearning for something deeper, untouched by time and circumstance.

We believe that true health & fulfillment comes from turning inward, nurturing, and loving our inner selves. This power of self- healing and eternal spirit lies within each of us, waiting to be realized. Through consistent self-care and introspective practices, we reveal the lasting wellbeing and contentment we seek. At Yoga Bali, we invite you to explore this journey, embracing the knowledge within and discovering a life enriched by yoga amidst life’s challenges.
