About Beate McLatchie

Lead Teacher & Founder of Yoga Bali

Beate’s journey with movement began on the tennis court, where discipline, grace, and resilience shaped her deep connection to both body and mind. Born and raised in the alpine embrace of Innsbruck, Austria, she found inspiration in nature’s rhythms—mountain air, flowing rivers, and the quiet wisdom of the trees. This reverence for the natural world became the foundation of her teachings, guiding students toward a deeper harmony between self and surroundings.

Beate embarked on an adventure-filled life that began with full athletic tennis scholarships in Florida and New York. After graduation, she worked as a guest relations & VIP  manager at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. A career shift led her to a political role working for the president in Austria before a life-changing move to Bali, where she found her true calling in family, holistic health, yoga, and wellness.

Beate created “Bali Yoga & Wellness” in 2005, the island’s first official yoga company, bringing yoga into villas, hotels, and private homes. In 2014, she expanded her vision to Vienna, creating Bali Yoga Wien, a sanctuary of movement and mindfulness, now led by Alkemy in the heart of the city at Schwarzenbergplatz.

When the world slowed during the pandemic, Beate returned to the place that had always felt like home—Bali. From this space of reflection and renewal, Yoga Bali was born—a refuge where students can reconnect, breathe, and find their own inner sanctuary.

Beate is a qualified yoga instructor with extensive training through Yoga Alliance (E-200 RYT, 500 RYT). Her certifications include 200-hour training from Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Kerala, India, additional 200-hour and 100-hour Vinyasa trainings in Bali, and 300-hour studies in Restorative Yoga and Kashmir Shaivism. Over 25 years, she has deepened her practice under esteemed teachers such as Olop Arpipi, Lois Steinberg, Shiva Rea, Tara Judelle and Sharon Gannon.

Beate’s teachings focus on physical alignment and the body’s architectural precision weaving together Iyengar-based Hatha Yoga, the fluidity of Vinyasa Flow, Sahaja Yoga (free flow), Bootcamp Style and the healing essence of Therapeutic Restorative Yoga, all harmonized with meditation and pranayama (yogic breathing techniques). Her heart lies in teaching yoga philosophy bridging the wisdom of the ancients—Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, Buddhist scriptures—and the insights of modern visionaries such as Byron Katie, Viktor Frankl, Gabor Maté, and Thich Nhat Hanh.

Through her international yoga platform, Beate has guided countless individuals toward a deeper sense of awareness and stability in body, mind and soul.

Our Mission Statement

At Yoga Bali, we believe that Yoga is a gift from the Gods for Humanity. We humbly and gratefully receive and pass on this treasure. We are honored to share our passion, experience and dedication to the practice of yoga through our Yoga Teacher Trainings, Yoga Holidays & Retreats and private practices both online and in person.

Our mission is to support those who seek to uplift their health, energy and awareness by blending ancient yogic wisdom with modern self-care practices, guiding each individual through a personalized approach toward daily practices (Sadhana), self-study (Svadhyaya) and ultimately self-realization (Samadhi).

The journey of holistic healing & self-discovery often feels like a search outside ourselves, in exterior remedies, relationships, achievements and material pursuits. But while these experiences often offer band aids and fleeting satisfaction, they ultimately leave us yearning for something deeper, untouched time or circumstance.

We believe that true health & fulfillment comes from turning inward, nurturing, and loving our inner selves. This power of self- healing and eternal spirit lies within each of us, waiting to be realized. Through consistent self-care and introspective practices, we reveal the lasting wellbeing and contentment we seek. At Yoga Bali, we invite you to explore this journey, embracing the knowledge within and discovering a life enriched by yoga amidst life’s challenges.
